Trauma, Military, &
First Responders
First responders, active military/veterans ---
100% confidential counseling for first responders, veterans, and trauma survivors.

If you’re a military member, first responder, or trauma survivor, chances are you’ve been trained to push through, no matter what. But when past experiences leave a mark, it can feel like you’re constantly fighting a battle that’s already over.

You might feel on edge all the time or like you’ve shut down completely. Anger, disconnection, anxiety, trouble sleeping, and even physical symptoms like headaches or chronic pain can take over your life. Trauma doesn’t just stay in the past – it lives in your body and brain, influencing how you think, feel, and react every day.

But trauma doesn’t have to keep controlling your thoughts and emotions. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy helps you move beyond your symptoms so you can get back to living your life.

What Does Trauma Look Like?
Trauma doesn’t have to be one big event. It can be a series of overwhelming experiences that leave your nervous system in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze. Whether you’ve been through combat, abuse, or years of chronic stress, the effects can show up in ways like:
-
Dissociation: Feeling numb or disconnected, like you’re floating through life or watching everything happen from a distance.
-
Anger and mood swings: Losing your temper easily or getting really irritable without understanding why.
-
Anxiety: A sense of constant edginess, jumpiness, or dread that doesn’t go away.
-
Conflict in relationships: Challenges with intimacy, trust, or feeling “present” with loved ones.
-
Flashbacks: Intrusive and uncontrollable memories of past events that crop up seemingly out of the blue and cause a lot of distress and panic.
-
Insomnia: Difficulty falling or staying asleep, or waking up feeling exhausted and drained.
-
Physical symptoms: Chronic pain, headaches, stomach problems, or muscle tension that won’t let up.
Trauma affects everyone differently, but the common thread is that it overwhelms your ability to cope with everyday life, leaving its mark on your emotional, mental, and physical health.

Types of Trauma EMDR Therapy Treats
Trauma doesn’t discriminate. It can stem from:
-
Military service: Experiencing combat, loss, or the high-stress demands of deployment.
-
First responder work: Witnessing violence, tragedy, or injury while working on the front lines.
